| Name: | Igraine, Queen of Cornwall |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | Feb 1 |
Igraine is the second child of Morgan le Fay and Arthur Pendragon, High King of Britain. She was conceived well into her brother Mordred's adolescence when her mother used her magic to appear in Arthur's chambers one Beltain eve while Guenevere slept in Lancelot's bed. Either Arthur was enchanted or thought it was his wife who came to him that night... or else he gave way to his own demons and lust once more. By the time the daughter was known about, Arthur had been slain by Mordred on the battlefield and could not be asked questions.
While she was still a child, Igraine's father, brother, and mother retreated into the sacred Tor of Avalon, waiting for the day when King Arthur would rise again to reclaim all of England. Morgan became the Lady of the Lake, though she was accessible only through the mirror-waters of the Lady's usual chambers, rather than able to be spoken to directly. Another priestess of the mother took over the duties, consulting Morgan as best she could.
Igraine was raised by her grandmother, for whom she was named, and she was brought up in the ways of the Mother-right, spoiled by her grandmother, aunt, and Orkney cousins. She spent every summer in the care of the priestesses, and she was taught the ways of the Mother, and her mother came in dreams to teach her ancient magic, though she did not whisper the words of hate into young Igraine's ears that she had into Mordred's. All was settled. Morgan had Arthur at last, caring for him while he slept and waited to rise again, and Guenevere had Camelot, had Lancelot. All was at peace.
But there were still Christians on the mother's land, and Guenevere, powerful as she was, was only one woman.
When Igraine was fourteen, she was sent to a court to further learn how a queen of the Mother-right ruled her land. The court was none other than Guenevere's. Guenevere welcomed the child, at peace with Morgan, and the girl was well taught. The day of Igraine's eighteenth birthday, the Dark Lord of the Underworld saw fit to call her grandmother home, and Igraine was named Queen of Cornwall.
The Mother-right, which the first Igraine of Cornwall, Morgan le Fay, and Guenevere all clung to, as well as many of the knights of Guenevere and Arthur, is the belief that, for the good of the kingdom, a queen must rule. This queen has her own band of knights as well as a champion and chosen one, her consort and usually the best of the knights. When the time is right, usually based on what the queen thinks, the consort changes. The "usual" time is every seven years. The belief is that the queen, like the Mother Goddess the land worships, needs to be kept strong and vital by her lover, which can require a change of pace. When she is strong and vital, so is the land. when a champion fails his queen or country, it is expected that the queen will realize that he has failed and respond by taking a new champion.
OOC: Igraine is an OC based on the Guenevere Trilogy by Rosalind Miles as well as roleplaying done by
camelotmayfall. Igraine is the second child of Morgan le Fay by her half-brother, Arthur Pendragon.
Both Igraine and I are over the age of eighteen, and there may be content not suitable for minors in some entries. These will be carefully marked and placed behind cuts with appropriate warnings. Minors, please do not read.
I am, naturally, neither Igraine or Katie McGrath, and I make no money off using her likeness.
